CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will ensure the visibility of uniformed policemen in crowded areas like churches and beaches during Holy Week celebration.

Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena, CPPO director, said that special attention will be given to areas like Bantayan Island that is located off the northern tip of Cebu province and Minglanilla town in the southern part of the island.

Travellers crowd Bantayan Island for its Holy Week activities and to enjoy the white sand beaches in Sta. Fe town.  The annual Sugat-Kabanhawan Festival in Minglanilla town that depicts the resurrection of Christ also draws a huge crowd.

Meanwhile, Abrugena is asking Cebuanos to keep their planned travels private.

He said that posting updates of their trips on social media can make them fall prey to criminal activities.

“I am calling out the attention na unang una po, mag-iwas tayo nga magpost sa social media kasi nagbibigay tayo ng signal sa mga criminal na lumabas tayo sa bahay,” said Abrugena.

(Please refrain from posting your activities on social media because this will only inform criminals that you have left your homes.)

Abrugena is also reminding travellers to always keep emergency numbers, like the contact numbers of the nearest fire and police stations close, in case of emergencies. /dcb
