CEBU CITY, Philippines – Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), is asking Cebuanos to immediately report to the nearest police station the sighting of armed men in their barangays.

Abrugena said there is big possibility that rebel groups in Negros Oriental would take refuge especially in the mountain barangays of Cebu following the killing of 14 rebel-famers during a Synchronized Enhanced Managing of Police Operations (SEMPO) on March 30, 2019.

CPPO, he said, will make sure that there is enough policemen to man the different police stations in the province while they will also continue the conduct of checkpoints as a security deterrence.

“We do not have to lower down our guards. Imonitor talaga yung pagdating at pagalis ng suspicious looking persons (We will continue to monitor the arrival and departure of suspicious looking persons),” said Abrugena.

He also gave the assurance that provincial policemen are prepared to defend their respective police stations and will not abandon these in case of rebel attacks.

“Di bali nang mamatay, wag lang magpahiya,” (We would not mind sacrificing our lives for as long as we do not bring shame (to the organization) ,” Abrugena added. /dcb
