CEBU CITY, Philippines – Policemen in Danao City confiscated at least P8 million worth of shabu and marijuana stalks in separate operations made on Thursday and Friday.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Maribel Getingan, chief of the Danao City Police Station, said they arrested habal-habal (motorcycle-fire-hire) driver Noel Capuyan on Friday, April 5, for the possession of five large packs and eight medium packs of suspected shabu worth P4.2 million in Sitio Taboc, Barangay Guinacot.
Tips coming from his neighbors on Capuyan’s illegal drug activities led to his arrest, Getingan said.
On Thursday, they also located a marijuana plantation in the mountain barangay of Langosig and uprooted 9, 800 marijuana stalks valued at P3.9 million.
However, Bienbenido Cal Sr., Bienbenido Cal Jr., Richard Cal, and Crisleo Pogoy Mata who were identified as caretakers of the marijuana plantation eluded arrest.
Getingan said that the marijuana stalks were already fully grown and ready for harvest.
The police chief said that their two operations were a big achievement for the city’s police force because it was the first time that they managed to confiscate millions worth of contraband. But at the same time, it was also an eye opener for them on the proliferation of illegal drugs and marijuana in their City.
“We must be vigilant enough kay dili nato i-underestimate ang usa ka lugar ba nga wala na diay ni droga considering nga sa karon nga panahon dali raman gud sa pag padala ana ang mga courier,” she added. /dcb
