Talisay Aquastars rout Tabuelan hoopsters in Gov’s Cup quarterfinals

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The defending champions Talisay City Aquastars made quick work of Tabuelan, as they won rather easily, 104-79, in Bracket B action in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament on Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Sogod Sports Complex.

Keaton Taburnal scored 23 points to lead Talisay City, which took full control of the game in the second half, where they outscored Tabuelan, 53-37. Before that, the Aquastars were ahead by a scant seven points, 51-44, at halftime, before exploding in the fourth canto, 30-16.

Taburnal was especially lethal in the final canto as he scored 11 of his point total during that crucial stretch to help Talisay City keep their repeat title bid on the right track.

Jay Deiparine added 19 points, Ronan Briones put up 17 while Clark Ruedas chipped in 11 for Talisay City.

Jansher Salubre tried to carry the fight for Tabuelan as he scored 30 points but it was not enough./dbs
