Initial police investigation showed that the couple and their eight-year-old daughter came from the North Bus Terminal in Barangay Subangdaku to send some supplies to Bantayan Island.

CCTV footage obtained by the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Command Center show that the Canes family was on board a motorcycle travelling home to Barangay Umapad when attacked by the still unidentified suspects past 11 p.m. on Sunday.

The CCTV footage showed that Michael stopped at the intersection of S. B. Cabahug and A.C. Cortes Avenue in respect of the red light.

A motorcycle tandem then stopped on Michael’s left side. The backrider pulled a handgun and fired at Michael which caused him and his motorcycle to fall to the other side of the road.  Fraldine and their daughter also fell on the ground.

The backrider then moved to Michael’s right side and started to fire shots at Fraldine before taking what appeared to be her handbag before he again boarded the waiting motorcycle. Their daughter was unharmed.

The tandem fled towards the northern part of the city.
