CEBU CITY, Philippines — Public hospitals in Cebu are still placed under “code white” alert along with the celebration of National Youth Day (NYD) 2019.

Code white alert pertains to the readiness status of hospitals assuring the availability of medical professionals in different fields to respond to emergency situations.

Dr. Shelbay Blanco, Health Emergency Management Staff (HEMS) coordinator of the Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH-7), said the entire region has been on code white alert since April 17 in observance of the Holy Week.

The status is extended until April 29, 2019 with the culmination of the NYD activities.

Blanco said they have six teams deployed in different sites from the southern Cebu city of Naga to the northern Cebu town of Liloan as part of their measures in making sure that the health needs and concerns of the delegates are readily addressed.

“We coordinated with the local government units from Naga to Liloan so that we can look into the health concerns of the delegates in the respective festival sites,” he said.

Blanco said each team member has five to six members composed of doctors, nurses, driver, and communicators. Each team has an ambulance during deployment. / celr
