VRV system ‘fails’ in San Fernando, causes delay

SAN FERNANDO, Cebu — The use of voters registration verification system (VRVS) has ‘failed’ in most, if not all, of the voting centers here.

Instead of expediting the verification of the identity of voters, long queues are now observed outside polling places because the VRV machines are not working and the members of the Electoral Board (EB) have to manually check the election day computerised voters list (EDCVL).

The VRV machines are supposed to be used to electronically verify if a voter is registered in the assigned precinct.

Mario Oville, election officer of San Fernando town, said they have yet to determine why the VRV machines are not functioning as expected.

However, Oville assured that the failure will not disrupt the entire election proceeding because all vote counting machines (VCMs) are in good condition.

Cebu is one of the pilot areas for the use of the VRVMs in the country. /bmjo
