SWU-PHINMA unveils upgraded Aznar Coliseum

Cebu City, Philippines—Southwestern University (SWU)-PHINMA on Thursday afternoon, May 16, 2019, officially introduced the newly renovated Aznar Coliseum located along Urgello Street in Cebu City.

Present during the simple unveiling ceremony were SWU-PHINMA COO Albert Gamboa, Cesafi Commissioner Felix “Boy” Tiukinhoy, SWU-PHINMA Athletics Director Pio Gerardo Solon and other school officials and coaches. 

According to a press release, the upgrading of the coliseum is part of the school’s bid to provide its students and athletes with the best training facilities. 

“[It is] a strategic move that is aligned with its mission of honing their students to become the best that they can be in any field,” the press release read.

Among the highlights of the new coliseum is the maple flooring, which, according to the press release, was installed by E-Sports International Inc.

It also has three high-volume, low-speed fans to add to the comfort of the 3,000 to 4,000 spectators that the coliseum can accommodate. It also has a skybox for VIPs.

Apart from that, the coliseum also has a world-class strength and conditioning facility and a recovery room for athletes.

“Aznar Coliseum’s upgrade is also a manifestation of SWU-PHINMA’s initiative to enhance and revitalize the SWU Cobras as well as offer unmatched experiences for students to watch and support the university team,” the press release read.

The blessing of the new coliseum was headed by Rev. Fr. Josue Gorgonio.
