For fighting off a sexual assault, 2 Davao Sur girls stabbed; 1 killed

MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur –– A teenaged girl is still in critical condition at the Davao del Sur provincial hospital in Digos City after being stabbed early Monday morning in an incident that killed her classmate.

According to the police report, the two Grade 9 students fought off a sexual assault when they were stabbed.

Senior Master Sergeant Jerome Quiapo, Magsaysay town police investigator, identified the victims as Krisna Ann Talisayan Raotraot, 16, and Kristine de Guzman Matulin, 15, both residents of Barangay Dalawinon here.

Raotraot died from stab wounds on her breast, left hand and neck while Matulin had various wounds in different parts of her body and is still fighting for her life.

Police identified the attacker as Jan Michael Pakiwag Daweng, 18, a Grade 12 student and resident of Dalawinon.

The incident happened around 1:45 a.m., just after the girls were about to head home from a disco party at the Dalawinon village gym.

Daweng invited them to Barangay Kasuga on board two motorcycles with four other boys. They stopped in the bank of a creek, where the boys reportedly started their sexual advance.

Refusing to heed the boys’ whims, the two girls ran away and headed for home but Daweng chased and stabbed them, Quiapo said.

When found by police investigators, Raotraot’s body was floating on the creek.

Daweng was arrested at their residence where authorities also found the knife believed to be used in stabbing the girls.

Police investigators identified Daweng’s companions as Cyril John Catipay Bonzo, 18, Antonio Genoguin Sabanal Jr., Raul Pardillo Mañacap Jr, and John Mars Manzano, all residents of Barangay Kasuga.

Police are still studying the four’s involvement in the crime, Quiapo said.

Daweng is now facing charges for murder and frustrated murder./lzb
