CEBU CITY, Philippines – At least 45 tons of garbage were collected during a clean-up drive this morning, August 24, in a swamp in Sitio Lusimba, Barangay Basak San Nicolas in Cebu City.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas (DENR-7) said in a Facebook post this afternoon that the collected garbage consisted mostly of non-biodegradable wastes like plastics, rubbers, diapers, water bottles, leather bags, glass bottles, styrofoam, cans, used rubber tires, and junk food wrappers.

At around 600 participants coming different government agencies and community organizsation joined the clean-up drive.
“One of the priority programs of the DENR under the leadership of Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu is the rehabilitation of river systems and other waterbodies in the country,” says the DENR Central Visayas advisory.
