TALISAY City Councilor Aldin Diaz was not satisfied with the answers given by City Budget Officer Edgar Mabunay on how he spent the P300,000 cash prize received by the Talisay City Central School contingent for winning the Sinulog sa Kabataan last January.
Diaz said Mabunay has not explained to their satisfaction issues raised by members of the contingents who are now asking where their cash prize went.
Diaz said the P300,000 should be liquidated, if it’s true that Mabunay spent the money on expenses incurred during the preparation and on the day of the competition. The city government had allocated P2 million for the Sinulog sa Kabataan.
Mabunay assured the City Council he will present documents detailing the use of the amount.
Meanwhile, Diaz grilled the budget officer on why the organizers of the last fiesta celebration have not been paid.
“I wonder why the organizers were not paid, but for another activity which you are hands-on, the budget was automatically released,” Diaz asked Mabunay.
Mabunay said that the tourism council has not submitted the necessary documents that is why the funds could not be released. He promised to disburse the funds in three months.
Some of the teachers who handled different committees for the Sinulog contingents voiced their concern that they might be held accountable for what they signed. They said they affixed their signatures on blank documents.
