A 55-year old American was found dead inside a room he rented in an uptown hotel in Cebu City, Wednesday morning.
Garrett Patrick Motley was found hanging with a cord tied on his neck to a ceiling in his room in Richmond Plaza Hotel in barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.
Police found no foul play and believed that his financial incapability forced Motley to commit suicide. They said an eviction notice given by the hotel last Monday could have prompted the New Yorker to commit suicide.
His bill reached P13,346. All of Motley’s belongings were still intact and there were no signs of commotion.
Recovered from the hotel were a cord measuring 129 cm used by the victim to hang himself, one passport, two surfboards, a wallet with no cash, assorted documents, a DVD player, assorted items and the eviction notice addressed to the victim from said hotel.
Motley’s body was brought to Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels for autopsy.
