Wider bike lanes planned for SRP

The manager of the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City proposed the widening of  the bike lanes from three meters to eight meters to accommodate bikers near  SM Seaside City  and the Filinvest Land Inc. development project.

SRP manager Roberto “Bu” Varquez said he is optimistic  his proposal will be supported by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and the City Council since this will help promote the city’s campaign on alternative transport and environmental preservation.

“It’s not a problem anymore to put up bike lanes in SRP because we own the land,” he said.

Varquez said a survey was already conducted by the city engineering office on the viability of putting up bike lanes at the SRP.

He said the SCR’s hillside road is three meters wide and should be expanded by another five meters for bike lanes.

“I hope we can do this before SM Seaside Mall opens next year,” Varquez said.

The council earlier approved a resolution designating the SRP’s seaside roads as a bike and jogging  area.

Bikers will be required to use the Mambaling access road and the SRP service road that passes under the bridge and connects the South Coastal Road (SCR) to Talisay City on their way to the SRP seaside road located at the back of pond F.

Varquez said that when the proposed bike lanes have been implemented, bike enthusiasts will have more area for their use.
