More help arrive for baby, who lost mom in Liburon fire

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Netizens have started sending help for the two-month-old infant, whose mother was killed in a fire which burned their home in Sitio San Roque, Barangay Liburon in Carcar City on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

John Michael Amaquin and his wife, Amadelia, sent diapers, clothes and other items that the baby, who is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), could use.

The couple sent their donation to the Carcar City Police Station on Monday morning, January 27, 2020, said an advisory that was posted on the official Facebook page of the Carcar City Police Station.

On Sunday, Patrolwoman Michell Garcia also breastfed the baby to make sure that he would not go hungry.

The baby boy was turned over to the DSWD on Monday morning after fire investigators found the charred body of his mother, Daily Melecio, 24, inside their burnt home.

His father, Romnick Melecio, 24, will be facing a parricide case for allegedly killing his wife before setting their house on fire.

Netizens who read Carcar City PS’s Facebook post expressed their appreciation for the Amaquin couple and for Patrolwoman Garcia.
