CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet will finally be pushing through from March 15 to 21, 2020 still in Dumaguete City.
The dates were officially announced via a memorandum issued by the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 7 dated February 13, 2020.
The week-long multi-sporting meet, which serves as a selection for Central Visayas representatives to the Palarong Pambansa, was supposed to be held from February 22 to 29, 2020.
However, DepEd Central Visayas decided to reschedule the regional meet to a later date amidst the threat of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

The sporting event, which is themed “School Sports: Keeping Talent, Developing Character,” is expected to gather close to 14,000 student athletes coming from 19 delegations.
Sending the most number of entries is Negros Oriental with 1,057 while perennial champion Cebu City Niños will be fielding 950 delegates. The leanest team will be the 361-strong Bogo City delegation.
Other delegations are Bais City, Bayawan City, Bohol, Carcar City, Cebu Province, City of Naga, Danao City, Dumaguete City, Guihulngan City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Tagbilaran City, Talisay City, Tanjay City and Toledo City.
Sporting events to be contested are archery, athletics, arnis, badminton, billiards, baseball, basketball, basketball 3-on-3, boxing, chess, football, futsal, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, wushu, pencak silat, gymnastics, aero gymnastics and dancesports.
Emerging top athletes of this CVIRAA Meet will go up against the best coming from other regions of the country in the Palarong Pambansa which will be hosted by Marikina City from May 3 to 9, 2020. /bmjo
