CEBU CITY, Philippines — Teachers must learn to be more patient, put in mind their trainings, and remember the do’s and don’ts of the child protection policy all throughout their teaching days.
Lawyer Buenvenido Douglas Luke Jaban, Department of Education Cebu City Division, legal counsel, advised teachers amid the incident involving a teacher, who was arrested for child abuse last Friday, February 28, 2020.
The 39-year-old teacher who handled a nursery class in a private school in Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City, got arrested after the parents of her four-year-old pupil filed a complaint to the Pardo Police Station for allegedly squeezing the face of the boy.

Jaban said that teachers had undergone trainings on the updated laws about child protection every summer to refresh them of the rules and consequences of violating these rules.

He said they would always emphasize during these trainings that they should always be patient with their students.
“It goes with their profession, kailangan gyud og pasensya (It goes with their profession. They should always have patience),” said Jaban.
Jaban’s gave this advice after the Pardo Police filed on March 2, 2020 a child abuse case against the teacher of a private nursery school in Barangay Bulacao.
Police filed a complaint against her for violating Republic Act 7610 or the Act on Special Protection Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
Child abuse complaint
Police Major John Kareen Escober, Pardo Police chief, said that the complaint was filed because the parents of the boy were determined to file the case.
Earlier, the boy’s parents had him undergo a medical examination so that they could get a medical certificate of the alleged child abuse act that the teacher allegedly did on the student.
This was part of the parents’ basis for filing a child abuse case against the teacher.
