WATCH: This curfew alarm in Lapu-Lapu is effective

CEBU CITY, Philippines— Curfews have been imposed in Metro Cebu due to the threat of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).

With this, barangay officials have been taking charge in implementing the 8 p.m curfew in their respective villages.

Master Capcap Aparente, 37, a photographer, was on his way home on March 21, 2020, when he witnessed village personnel use a very familiar sound for a curfew alarm for residents of Opon Merkado in Lapu-Lapu City.

It was the sound used in the movie, The Purge.

“At first I didn’t know we had this kind of curfew alarm. I was just really planning on taking a video of it, trying to frame an empty street on a very calm evening,” said Aparente.

Aparente also added that before they play the “Purge” sound, an announcement is made about the curfew.

The alarm goes for a good two to three minutes.

“Anyone on that scene makuyawan ana nga alarm (since you’ve already watched it on horror movies with the same creepy alarm haha).  Actually, it’s really effective kay wla na mga grupo sa mga batanon mang gawas after the curfew, plus naa pa gyd manita na mga patrol,” he added.

(Anyone on that scene will be scared of the alarm. Actually, it’s really effective because there are no groups of young people who’d go out after the curfew, and there are also authorities who patrol the area.)

The video as of March 23 has already been viewed 99,000 times with 4,200 reactions and 5,500 shares.

Watch it here:

In the 20-second video, one can really notice an empty street in Lapu-Lapu that is usually a busy on a normal Saturday night.

It is safe to say that the sound of that scary alarm sound is really effective. /bmjo
