Inmate facing incestuous rape hangs self in Liloan
A 49-YEAR-OLD man accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter was found hanging dead in the detention cell of a police station in Liloan town, northern Cebu.
The inmate was found suspended from the ceiling of the cell’s comfort room with a telephone wire tied around his neck last Thursday night.
Chief Insp. Jose Liddawa Jr., chief of the Liloan police, said mental anguish may have drove the inmate to kill himself.
Liddawa said an installed wire used as clothesline inside the jail’s restroom was used in the suicide.
Police said there were no indications that there was foul play involved in the death.
The man was arrested last Monday after his wife and daughter went to the police station to report the alleged abuse.
Police said the inmate’s wife paid him a visit before he was found dead.
The man immediately went inside the comfort room after his wife left.
Another inmate, Roel Sandro noticed that Cabatingan stayed too long inside the comfort room.
Sandro repeatedly checked on Cabatingan but the man did not respond, forcing him to open the door.
Police brought the man to the Liloan Municipal Medical and Emergency Services where he was declared dead.
