Roads below flyover in Maguikay closed as retrofit job starts

Motorists will  be barred from using the road under the Maguikay flyover in Mandaue City during the evenings starting tomorrow, May 26, when the PLD Construction starts retrofitting the structure.

The road under the flyover, one of the main roads used  to reach northern Cebu, will be closed starting 9:00 p.m. up to 5:00 a.m. but motorists can still use the flyover itself.

The project was to have been implemented last March but was postponed because of the worsening traffic congestion on roads leading to the north while road rehabilitation and drainage improvement projects in other streets in barangay Maguikay were undertaken.

As the projects on M.L. Quezon Street are halfway completed, retrofitting of the flyover will start tomorrow.

Mandaue City Public Information Officer Roger Paller said the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) will not implement a rerouting scheme  to avoid sowing confusion among  motorists.

Instead, directional signs will be placed along A.C. Cortes Street, M.L. Quezon Street, Pacific Mall and Highway Seno to inform people of the available routes.

The P17.6 million project is due to be completed after 190 working days, although the contractor promised to speed up the work to complete it ahead of schedule.
