CEBU CITY, Philippines— With the city is now under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), 90 percent of the business in Lapu-Lapu City are now operational, which means more workers will be traveling to get to their respective workplaces.

With this, Lapu-Lapu City Legal City Legal Officer Lawyer James Sayson clarified that workers who will be using  their private vehicles to work will be exempted from the number coding implemented in the city.

“Atong klarohon ang coding, say for example, ako padung ko sa akong trabaho kay nangabli na diris Lapu-Lapu naa koy sakyanan, puwede nako gamiton, akong buhaton mag dala lang kog ID, certificate of employment ug copy sa business permit sa akong employer,” said Sayson.

(I would like to make it clear for the coding, say for example, I am on my way to work because my workplace is already open here in Lapu-Lapu City and I have a car, it is allowed to use or exempted from the number coding given that I can present my ID, certificate of employment, and a copy of the business permit from our employer.)

Executive Order No. 48-G of the city of Lapu-Lapu was posted on Sunday evening, May 17, by city Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan for the public to be guided accordingly.

The number coding scheme, based on the last digit of a private vehicle’s license plates, remain in effect while on GCQ.

The number coding scheme allows cars with license plates ending in odd numbers to travel on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and from 5:01 am to 11:59 a.m on Sundays. Those with plates ending in odd numbers can travel on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturday, and from 12:00 noon to 9:59 p.m. on Sundays.

Also, during an earlier public hearing, Chan mentioned that those 18 years old to 21 years old who are already working are also exempted from staying at home, given that they too will present the needed requirements.

The number coding for the quarantine passes is still implemented given that the city is still under quarantine, just under a lighter classification, says Sayson.

The city still is still strictly implementing its liquor ban, curfew, and still not allowing 21 years old and under and senior citizens to go out of their respective houses. /bmjo
