Three men were arrested after they allegedly mauled a policeman in barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.
Facing a string of charges are: Allan Patigas, his sons Alvin and Romeo, and Edilberto Fernandez who were accused of mauling PO3 Michael Cortes of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).
Romeo remains at large, police said.
Investigation showed that the policeman was in the area to conduct a surveillance operation when he saw the suspects arguing. PO3 Cortes stepped in to pacify the group but one of the suspects allegedly tried to wrestle him down while another hit him with a hard object in the head.
One of the suspects took his 9mm pistol.
Bystanders who saw the commotion intervened and saved the policemen from further harm.
Policemen who rushed to the area arrested Alvin, Allan and Fernandez.
Police were also able to recover Cortes’ service pistol.
Police said the three suspects tested positive for alcohol and allegedly yielded marijuana sticks.
Cortes had filed a complaint for direct assault, robbery, attempted homicide and drunkenness against the suspects. / by Mayfair Dela Cerna, USJ-R Intern
