No homes yet for fire victims

Families displaced by last Saturday’s fire that hit sitio Ibaan in barangay Banilad in Cebu City won’t be allowed to rebuild their shanties.

Cebu City Councilor Gerardo Carillo said the Cebu City government would instead build an urban poor condominium where  the fire victims would be accommodated.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wanted the place cleared since it is within the three meter easement from Mahiga Creek.  “The city government will have to redesign the area and clear the three meter easement,” Carillo said.

He said it would take time for the city to build the urban poor condominium for Banilad creek side residents since they first have to acquire the 1,000 square meter lot from its private owners.

Vice Mayor Edgar Labella earlier said the property is owned by the Co and Tan families.
