Cebuanos’ faith and devotion to the Santo Nino has come a long way since the image arrived on our shores five centuries ago. Since then, the devotion has spread across the country and the world, and it continues to influence our faith and culture.
With the celebration of 500 years of the arrival of Christianity fast approaching, Gabii sa Kabilin will hold a webinar entitled “The Journey of the Santo Niño” on January 29, 3 P.M., tracing the Santo Niño’s journey from its origin in Europe to its finding during the Legazpi expedition.
In the webinar, Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, spokesperson of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu, will discuss the image’s beginnings in Europe, its arrival in Cebu, the giving of the image to Queen Juana, what happened in the 44 years it stayed in the island, until the finding of the image or the Kaplag in 1565. He will also answer questions after the talk, which will be streamed live on Gabii sa Kabilin’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
