LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu—The head of the Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has admitted failure in controlling the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) here.

Nagiel Bañacia, CDRRMO head, said that they have failed amidst the rise of the newly reported cases of the COVID-19 in the city.

Based on the monitoring of the City Health Department, since January 27, 2021, Lapu-Lapu City has logged double-digit number of cases of the virus.

On January 27, the city has recorded 19 newly reported cases of the virus, 10 cases on January 28, 23 cases on January 29, 53 cases on January 30, and 47 cases on January 31.

“Nahitabo man gud, we fail, we fail. Even the government,” Bañacia said.

Bañacia also predicted that in the coming days, they might log three-digit number of cases of the virus due to the contact tracing activities to identify those who have been exposed to a COVID-19 positive patient.

Bañacia said they failed because people are not cooperating, especially in complying with the health and safety protocols, such as the wearing of a face mask and face shield, and the observance of the social distancing measures.

“Nakahibawo sila sa patakaran. Ngaong niingon ko nga we failed? Kay wala ta magpakabana sa usag-usa,” he added.

Despite this, Bañacia still took pride that Lapu-Lapu’s COVID-19 data is genuine, which only shows that the Chan Administration is transparent to its constituents.
