CEBU CITY, Philippines— Island Rescue Organization is a non-government organization for rescued dogs in Cebu.
IRO was established in 2010 that has then opened thousands of doors for rescued dogs to find new homes.
But one of their volunteers always has this special bond with the dogs and when one gets adopted, she could not help herself but shed some tears.
Meet Xemenia Cuyos, an IRO volunteer for 11 years who gets emotional when their rescue dogs get adopted.
“I always end up being emotional and would burst into tears to release the pain every time one of the rescues are adopted,” Cuyos said.
“I am so attached to all of the rescues because I am closely working with them during their rehabilitation period. Some of them grew up under my care, and although, it pains me a lot seeing them leave, I am still elated to know that there’s a family waiting for them to come home (to). Something that I could no longer provide because of the number of personal rescues that I already have,” she said.
Her tears bring her joy and pain at the same time knowing that she has to part with the rescue, but she knows that this will lead to another room for a rescue to be part of their family.

As she gets more rescue dogs a new home, Cuyos would also want others, especially furparents to take extra care of their pets for them to have a loving home.
“A plea to everyone in the community, if you’re a motorist please brake for animals. To pet owners, please be a responsible pet owners, don’t get one if you don’t like animals. If you see one outside your homes, please don’t hurt them, you can choose to leave them alone or at least provide food and water for the strays. Adopt don’t shop,” she added.
