CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 43-year-old garbage truck driver who once served time in jail was shot by two men on board a motorcycle early morning of Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, in Mandaue City.
The police said Jerome Normandia was brought to the hospital for treatment. They said they could not yet ascertain the extent of the victim’s injuries.
Police Corporal Ryan Diamada, the case investigator, said that Normandia was riding his motorcycle and was heading home after buying cigarettes at the Canduman Market around 7 a.m. when two men on a motorcycle shot him just a few meters from his home in Zone 5, H. Abellana Street, Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
“Pagbalik nya gisundan sya sa duha ka tawo nga nagsakay og motorcycle dayon pagduol duol na sa ilaha, gibirahan siya. Gipusil sya dayon. Nakadagan pa gihapon sya sulod sa ilahang balay,” said Diamada.

The suspects then fled. Police recovered six cartridges and a bullet from the crime scene.
Diamada said the victim was rushed to the North General Hospital for treatment but they could not yet reveal the extent of his injuries as he was still in the operating room when they arrived.
Diamada also revealed that Normandia was arrested on July 3, 2019, for a drug-related case and was released in December 2019 after he pleaded guilty to a lower offense. /rcg
