CEBU City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella wants the Korean who ran over a traffic enforcer to be included in the watchlist of passengers leaving country.
“I have asked the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Cebu to include the Korean suspect in their watchlist so they note if she leaves or not,” Labella said.
The 48-year old Korean national and Sun Kyung Heo hit and killed a Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) enforcer Maria Theresa Bascones, 38, near a shopping mall in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City last Tuesday. Bascones had worked with Citom in the past 10 years and is reportedly the sole breadwinner of her family.
A case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide was already filed by Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office before the Metropolitan Trial Court in Cities yesterday afternoon.
“The Korean national posted bail of P30,000 and is free. It’s very unfair,” Citom executive director Rafael Yap said.
The remains of Bascones are currently in St. Peter’s Memorial Chapel in Imus.
The City government will be extending burial and financial assistance to the family of Bascones, who died in line of duty, although the amount is sill to be finalized.
The incident happened at a U-turn slot in Gaisano Country Mall along the Banilad-Talamban road.
With the accident, the mayor recently disallowed the U-turn slot in the mall.
