CEBU CITY, Philippines — Four of its stay in employees were already asleep when the fire broke at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14.
But said employees were lucky to have escaped unharmed.
Fire Officer (FO3) Emerson Arceo of the Cebu City Fire Department said they continue to investigate the cause of the fire that burned the 130-square meter warehouse located along Lucio Lopez Drive in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.
The warehouse that is owned by a certain Mr. Go is used to store construction materials and furniture.
Arceo said that the fire broke at 2 a.m. on Sunday and burned P2.5 million worth of properties.
The alarm was reported at 2:26 p.m. and was placed under control by responding firefighters after two minutes. The fire was put out at about 3 a.m.
Arceo said they are looking at “electrical fusion” as the possible cause of the fire. But this will have to be verified during their ongoing investigation.
He said that the stay in workers managed to vacate their sleeping quarters located across the burnt warehouse before the fire could spread.
The fire in Calamba was the second fire incident to be reported in Cebu City this month of March which is considered as the fire prevention month.
The first incident was reported on March 7 and affected a textiles warehouse located at 5th street, Happy Valley Subdivision in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
