CEBU CITY, Philippines —  With over 20 art pieces made by young students in Cebu, Halad sa Kababayen-an speaks for women’s equality and empowerment.

The University of San Carlos-Senior High School-South Campus in partnership with Legal Alternatives for Women (LAW) Center Inc, is the brains behind this powerful exhibit launched last March 8 up to March 14 at the Cube Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu.

Halad sa Kababayen-an showcases works from Grade 12 Art and Design Students.

These students managed to create digital, pen, ink, and watercolor artworks through online classes.

They may not have seen each other face to face, but their works speak and show that they are just more than studying at the end of the other side of the computer.

Their works speak volumes about empowering women.

Marie Tabotabo, Art instructor and current Board secretary of LAW Center Inc.,  shares that this activity does not only promote talent but gender equality and makes good use of the energy and the time while everyone stays at home.

“Halad sa Kababayen-an” is participated by 25 students, some of whom hail from as far as Leyte, Mindanao, and Dubai as online classes continue to be the learning mode this semester. They, however, will not be allowed to set up the exhibit, nor to join in the Opening Ceremony and view their works, in observance of health protocols. Nonetheless, the students and their families have expressed joy and pride in being able to create and participate in such an important event,” she said.

Alongside the exhibit are lady lawyers who will be providing free legal advice to walk-in women clients who may suffer from violence and abuse.

“Halad sa Kababayen-an” will be transferred to the fourth-floor hallway of Ayala Central Bloc Cebu on March 22-31.
