TALISAY CITY, Cebu – A senior citizen was brought to the hospital after he was allegedly sideswiped by a passing mini bus early this Monday morning, March 22, 2021, while traversing a portion of Natalio Bacalso Avenue located near the Tabunok flyover.

Leonardo Turoktokon, 61, was immediately brought to the Talisay City District Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.

Traffic enforcer Ivan Necessario said that the old man’s left arm was run over by the mini bus. Turoktokon is from Purok Mahogany in Barangay Biasong in Talisay City.

Initial reports gathered by the City of Talisay-Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA) show that Turoktokon was riding his bicycle on his way to work at about 7 a.m. on Monday.  He was traversing the highway’s Cebu City-bound lane when he was sideswiped by the bus that was travelling on the same lane.

“Ang sulti nila kay niligapak na lang. Wala sila ka bantay. Ni palas man gud siya (ang tiguwang) sa bike lane,” said Necessario.

(They [the bus driver] told us that he noticed something fall.  He did not see what it was.  The [elderly man] was already outside the bike lane.)

Necessario said that a motorcycle was blocking the old man’s way, the reason why he went out of the designated bike lane.  But he did not see the bus that was behind him.

The early morning accident caused traffic build up in the area.

Necessario said that mini bus driver Edgardo Nator of Sitio Bogo in Barangay Kawasan, Aloguinsan town is now under police custody for further investigation. / dcb
