Lapu-Lapu records over 2K COVID cases in less than 3 months – Bañacia

MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Lapu-Lapu City logged a total of 2, 660 cases of the coronavirus disease from March 1 to December 31, 2020.

This year, the city logged 2, 608 cases in less than three months, from January 1 to March 21.

Nagiel Bañacia, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said that cases of the infection are already affecting the subdivisions.

“9 sa 30 ka barangay sa Dakbayan sa Lapu-Lapu ang adunay kaso sa COVID-19 sulod sa mga subdivisions,” he said in a Facebook post Tuesday night, March 23.

Based on their latest count, Bañacia said, a total of 28 subdivisions in the city have cases of the infection affecting at least 42 individuals.

Among its 30 barangays, Basak continues to have the most number of infections followed by Pajo, Gun-ob, and Pusok.

However, Bañacia said, that they are now seeing progress with the “slight drop” in the city’s active cases.

Bañacia said that they used to record an average of 57 active cases per day during the first week of March.  Active cases dropped to an average of 49 per day on the third week of the month.

Their weekly count was also at 400 and 358 during the first two weeks of March.  It slightly dropped to 344 on the third week as a result of the #CrisisCommunication and CommunityEngagement that they conduct in the barangays to especially campaign on the need to observe health protocols.

From March 15 to 21, the city logged a total of 344 active cases of which 214 are in isolation while 13o are admitted in hospitals.

The city logged 70 infections on March 19, its highest for the week.
