A poultry farm in Asturias town in Cebu suspected of being a source of fly infestation has to explain violations in its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).
Inspectors from the regional office of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-7) found at least five violations committed by Cebu TH Poultry House Corporation (CTPHC), which is being blamed by residents for the infestation of flies in barangay Bago.
In a Notice of Violation signed by Regional Director William Cuñado, the EMB said the farm failed to implement mitigating or enhancement measures of fly control management during harvest.
In a press statement, the bureau said the poultry farm failed to secure a waste discharge permit and to recycle wastewater from its waste treatment facility, along with lapses in other reporting requirements.
The EMB called Warren Hing of CTHPC to a technical conference on Aug. 8 and to show cause why the company should not be penalized for violating its its ECC.
Asturias Mayor Alan Adlawan and barangay Bago councilwoman Liziel Cayson were also invited to the conference.
on companies with ECCs to check if they have been compliant with the conditions as stipulated,” said DENR 7 Regional Executive Director Isabelo Montejo in a press statement.
