Montejo, Sepanton snatch Cepca weekly chess crowns

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Norman Jasper Montejo and Sheila Khan Sepanton ruled last Sunday’s Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) weekly online chess tournament.

Montejo topped the all-Cepcans category while Sepanton dominated the Group B-Ladies division.

The 37-year old Montejo of Catbalogan City finished the 11-round Swiss system competition in the All-Cepcans category with a near-perfect 10.5 points or ten wins and a draw.

The former varsity woodpusher turned estate supervisor bested Nicanor Cuizon who finished second with 8.0 points. Former weekly champion Jimmy Ty Jr. rounded off the top three in the category with 7.5 points.

International Arbiter (IA) Lincoln Yap, Rosendo Yamyamin, and National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr. finished fourth to sixth, respectively.

Meanwhile, the 29-year old Sepanton finished with 40 points in the Arena system event of the Group B Cepans-Ladies category.

The Ilongga former varsity woodpusher bested former weekly champion Kristina Belano who settled at second place with 36 points while Reynaldo Flores landed at third with 33 points.
