MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Mandaue City Emergency Operations Center will be visiting the city’s orphanage, the Hope of Mandaue (HOME) Children’s Center at the City’s Social Welfare Services building to check on the health status of the children there.

Lawyer Julius Ceasar Entise, EOC deputy chief of the and head of Contact tracing team, said they will conduct COVID testing if there will be minors who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

“Even just one of the children showing any of the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 we will test,” declared Entise

Earlier, 31 minors, who are staying at the Home Care Center for Children in Barangay Gun-ob in Lapu-Lapu City tested positive for the virus.

Entise said about 10 percent of the city’s cases were minors or those aged below 18 years old with only mild symptoms to asymptomatic.

“Unlike last year that usually the adults who got to be infected, now, even kids are like we have as young as two years old even a newborn got infected together with the mom so, this is something new I should say,” he said.

Entise added that they have not recorded a minor who died from COVID-19.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Villaro, spokesperson of the Mandaue City Police Office, said aside from the everyday roving patrols in different areas in the city reminding the public and business establishments to comply with minimum health standards, they are also conducting rescue operations for minors wandering outside and sent back to their respective barangays.     /rcg
