CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Capitol vowed to support schools that are set to join the pilot implementation of limited face-to-face classes.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the provincial government is expected to distribute school supplies for teachers and students in eight schools in Cebu province that passed the latest round of validation and inspection from the Department of Health (DOH).

However, Garcia said the provincial government will have to conduct re-bidding for the notebooks since the supplier initially selected gave a higher price.

“I had to do a rebid for the notebooks kay labing taasa sa presyo and I hope this will follow, maapas. The other supplies are ready,” she explained.

The governor, in 2020, promised that the Capitol will be setting aside funds to schools that will be eventually returning to the traditional style of teaching.

It will be spent, among others, to provide free school supplies for the students.

The Department of Education (DepEd) on October 19 announced that the number of schools in Central Visayas qualified to proceed with the limited in-person classes this November 15 has been reduced to eight.

All of these schools are from Cebu province.

These are Basak Elementary School (Samboan), Mahanlud Elementary School (Malabuyoc), Cabagdalan Elementary School (Balamban), Luyongbaybay Elementary School (Bantayan), Cañang-Marcelo Luna National High School (Oslob), Busay National High School (Moalboal), Pilar National High School (Pilar), and Siocon Elementary School (Bogo City).

Initially, 12 public schools in Central Visayas were selected. But after another round of validation and inspection, DepEd said some schools failed to pass DOH’s standards for the safe resumption of face-to-face classes.

A total of 30 schools nationwide is expected to resume the traditional style of teaching this November 15.
