CEBU CITY, Philippines – A total of 944 nurses in Cebu received their cash assistance for helping the government’s response towards the third surge of COVID-19 infections.
In a statement dated October 25, 2021, the Project Balik Buhay (PBB) reported that they turned over the second tranche of salary and bonus to the nurses who were hired to directly attend to COVID-19 patients from August to September.
“The first tranche of salary assistance for the month of August 2021 benefited 993 nurses from 13 participating Private Hospitals, following the agreed-upon program requirements,” portions of the statement read.
The move was made to address the lack of Cebu’s healthcare workers, which officials pointed as one of the reasons why the island-province experienced a third wave of COVID infections between July and the first week of September.
On top of their wages, members of the private and public sectors under PBB pledged to provide P15,000 as a monthly stipend for each nurse hired, and for two months.
“For Nurses who may not be able to render a full month assignment attending to Covid patients, the allowance will be computed proportionately based on the number of working hours rendered. Other program details outlined in the signed Memorandum of Agreement among all involved parties will also apply,” PBB added.
PBB’s participating hospitals included Chong Hua Hospital – Fuente, Chong Hua Hospital – Mandaue, Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital Group, Perpetual Succour Hospital, ARC Hospital, Cebu Velez General Hospital, Adventist Hospital Cebu, Southwestern University Medical Center, St. Vincent General Hospital, The Hospital by Maayo Well, and Visayas Community Medical Center./bmjo
