Mayor Rama still supports Binay

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama assured Vice President Jejomar Binay of his continued support amid a Senate blue ribbon committee investigation on the alleged overpricing of the Makati City building 2.

“I’m very consistent that I’m supporting the vice president in his aspiration to run for president,” Rama said during a press conference.

Rama said he wanted to pay back Binay for accommodating him in the opposition when the Liberal Party chose to endorse former mayor Tomas Osmeña over Rama in last year’s election.

Rama was in Manila over the weekend to attend to several concerns. He also spoke to Binay.

“I reiterated to him (Binay) that I won’t be running away from my support,” Rama said.

Rama said that while he supports the Senate investigation on the project, he couldn’t help but question the motive behind the investigation after Binay announced his intention to run for president.

“Nganong wala man ni ni gawas sa una (why didn’t these allegations come out before) when he was still mayor and when he ran for vice president?” Rama said, adding that the inquiry is politically motivated.

Rama said he advised Binay not to be affected by criticism. The mayor recalled his own experience of being wrongfully accused of being a drug addict in the 2013 elections.
