Two jeepney drivers were arrested yesterday after a warrant was issued against them for failing to pay more than P200,000 worth of traffic fines.
Dioscoro Cafino had accumulated P166,800 in fines from traffic violations while Jerry Caboguas has P52,800.
The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) ran after 59 drivers who were issued bench warrants last week by Metropolitan Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 1 Judge Monalilia Tecson.
“We were able to catch two drivers in a span of two hours. One of them has one of the highest accumulated fines among the batch,” said Citom operations chief Joy Tumulak.
Tumulak said both drivers were caught near Osmeña Boulevard at the corner of Plaridel Street at around 10 a.m. yesterday.
The two were taken to the Citom office where they can settle their fines or answer in court.
If they opt to settle, they have to pay their fines and Citom will issue an affidavit of desistance so the case will be dismissed.
If they don’t settle, the drivers will have to appear in court for the hearing of the cases filed against them.
Tumulak said Cafino has six pending cases in court while Caboguas has two. He said Citom will continue with its operations to catch those who were issued bench warrants.
