Lapu defers shark ban

The City Council of Lapu-Lapu has deferred the approval of the proposed ordinance banning the catching, trading and processing of sharks and other endangered marine species.

Councilor Eddie Cuizon and Francisco Senirpida wants the names of exotic marine animals to be banned in the proposed ordinance to be specified. They also want to know and put in writing the local name of the marine animals.

The councilors also wanted a list from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) of marine animals that are protected and whose catching, selling and trading is prohibited.
