Six Cebu towns received emergency shelter assistance (ESA) after supertyphoon Yolanda struck but 10 others in northern Cebu are still waiting for their aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-7) ten months after the storm struck.
The aid amounting to around P2.8 billion is still with the Department of Budget and Management, said Shalaine Marie Lucero, DSWD-7 assistant regional director for operations.
Lucero said the towns of Madridejos, Sta. Fe, Tabuelan, Sogod, Tuburan, Catmon already received shelter assistance amounting to P106.7 million.
The amount covered 9,698 families for totally damaged houses and 9,702 families for partially damaged houses.
Shelter assistance is provided by the DSWD for repair of totally and partially damaged homes.
“The money used for the first six towns came from our savings in disaster funds. Wala man kaabot na sa uban so mao tong kinahanglan mag hulat sa DBM,” shesaid.

For towns to avail of the ESA, they are required to submit a project proposal, a list of beneficiaries, and a rehabilitation plan, among others.
The local government units that are yet to receive their ESA are Bogo City and the towns of Bantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Daanbantayan, Pilar, San Francisco and Tudela.
Only Poro and Borbon has not yet submitted the requirements to avail of the national government assistance.
