MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — The Mandaue City Business Permit Licensing Office has yet to issue any notice of violation or warning to businesses in the city since the lifting of curfew and the placing of the city under Alert Level 2 last February 16.
Lawyer August Lizer Malate said so far businesses in the city are compliant with the imposed protocols.
Malate though admitted that currently, they are not focusing on the inspection of the businesses’ compliance since inspections are no longer as frequent as before.
He said businesses already know the same protocols implemented since the pandemic has been around for two years.
“We cannot do away, we cannot avoid the fact nga naa ang pandemic even if na endemic na na siya, naa gihapon ang virus,” said Malate.
“Rather than focusing on regulation, we are inviting them to get vaccinated so lahi atoang approach, lahi atoang perspective kinahanglan gyud balance otherwise mamatay ang atoang mga negosyo which is the lifeblood of the city. We should shift our perspective rather than COVID-19 let’s look out for vaccination, atoang economic aspect back to normal,” he added.
He said since last year, businesses were encouraged to get their employees vaccinated.
Now, businesses are back operating at night, he said.
Malate also observed that more people are now confident to go out of their homes and he believed this is due to the city’s high vaccination rate.
Based on the Cebu Vaccination Statistics data as of February 22, 91 percent of the city’s eligible population including the 5 to 11 years old pediatric age group have already received their first dose while almost 84 percent are fully vaccinated. /rcg
