The Medellin municipal government will conduct a survey to identify which areas are flood prone in the wake of the drowning of a 12-year-old boy at 2 p.m. last Friday.
“This is the first time it happened in Medellin town. Bangon Creek is dry during the summer but can easily be flooded even with a slight downpour,” Medellin Mayor Ricky Ramirez said.
Anthony dela Peña Torino and seven kids swam at Bangon Creek in sitio Comon, barangay Daanlungsod when he was swept by a strong current caused by last Friday’s rains,
The boy was found dead three hours later. His seven friends went to their grandparents to recover from the shock of losing Torino and were fetched by their parents later that night.
“We will shoulder the burial expenses and we are also be giving them financial assistance as well. I have yet to ask our social worker if he underwent training regarding stress debriefing,” he said.
