LBC says they’ve hired guards

Courier  firm LBC said it has complied with Cebu City Hall’s notice to hire security guards and put up surveillance cameras in their branches located outside malls.

In a letter addressed to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama last Sept. 18, LBC Express Inc. Area Manager Sherwin Navarro said all branches replaced their closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras with high definition security cameras.

They also hired security guards in all LBC branches outside malls as early as Sept. 12 after a meeting with the mayor.

“We will strengthen our standards in securing the protection and welfare of our customers and associates,” Navarro said.

City Attorney Jerone Castillo said the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) confirmed that LBC hired security guards for their outlets.

He said random inspections will be done to make sure these outlets comply with their city’s security requirements.

Castillo said no closure of the branches will push through since it would “render the earlier notices academic.”

Last month, Rama warned LBC to hire guards and install better cameras lest they be closed following a spate of robberies that hit the courier firm’s branches in Cebu City.

The notices of closure were signed by Mayor Rama last week before he flew to Portugal.
