Two Japanese residents will never forget two taxi drivers when they reminisce on their days while studying in Cebu. One robbed them while the other helped save them from further harm.
Hitomi Harashima and Genki Hirano, both 23-year-old students of the MSE School in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City haled a taxicab near the Redemptorist Church on Saturday evening.
As the cab cruised along M. Velez St. in barangay Guadalupe, the driver, later identified as William Quiñonez, suddenly pulled over, pointed a toy gun to his passengers and declared a holdup.
He allegedly tied the two foreigners using a cellophane tape before he divested them of their wallet and other belongings.
Unknown to the perpetrator, another taxi driver saw what was happening and immediately alerted policemen who were on patrol near the area.
Police allegedly caught the driver while still frisking his passengers.
Police also found a nine-inch kitchen knife inside Quiñonez’s taxi.
The cab driver denied he was robbing the students. He said he was just asking them to pay their taxi fare, he said
The taxi driver is now under the custody of the Cebu City Police Office.
