Cebuano Donayre guns for bounce-back victory

After his shocking loss in his One Fighting Championship debut last August 29, Cebuano MMA fighter Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre vowed to bounce back.

He will get that chance this Friday when he battles Malaysian Peter Davis in the co-main event of One FC: Roar of Tigers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Davis, a Malaysia actor with an 8-3, win-loss record, will test his vicious ground techniques against Donayre, a rising star in the Universal Reality Combat Championship’s lightweight division.

“I am more prepared for this fight. After I failed in Dubai, I trained even harder with lots of sparring. My training also includes a lot of running, conditioning training and cage works,” Donayre told CDN.

Donayre (7-2) lost to Dubai MMA champion Mohammed Walid in Dubai last Aug. 29 via a swift first round armbar submission. According to Donayre, he was reckless at that time. “That loss was an accident, he just got lucky. I think I am more ready for any eventuality that may happen inside the cage. That’s the lesson I learned from that unexpected loss.,” he added.

To prepare for Davis, Donayre is training under the watchful eyes of MMA and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu coach Eric Ramsey of the United States. Ramsey according to Donayre, is a blackbelt Jiu-jitsu expert.

“I’ve trained hard especially on my ground games since my debut in One FC so I’m not worried about Davis’ ground games.”

Donayre, who once fought under YawYan ArDigma Cebu and Deftac Cebu promised that he will be more than ready against Davis.

Should he beat Davis, Donayre hopes to climb back up to the welterweight division to challenge Walid for a rematch.

This Friday’s fight card will be bannered by Rob Lisita of Australia against Russian Marat Gafurov at the Stadium Putra.
