CEBU CITY, Philippines — At least 3,000 Cebu City Hall employees risk losing their jobs if they do not perform what’s expected of them in the next six months.

Mayor Michael Rama said he would not hesitate to dismiss those who will be underperforming.

He is giving City Hall employees, including his appointees, six months to shape up or prove their worth under his administration.

“I put here reminders, three months, there is also one month, there is six months. Depends on how the fiscal status will evolve and I am referring to how fast the City Treasurer and all those involved in the so-called cluster of revenues [will perform],” Rama said in a speech which he delivered during the flag raising ceremony at Plaza Sugbo early on Monday morning, July 4.

“I want to announce today that if nothing improves, no program [is] being instituted, expect 3,000 employees to lose their jobs. I am serious about it. Atty. Eugene Orbita, you will have more, more legal intervention when I will have this stand and the mayor is serious about it,” he added.

After the lapse of the six-month grace period, he will order the conduct of performance evaluation that will help him determine who should stay and who should already leave City Hall.

But before these comes, Rama directed all the City Hall department heads to properly supervise operations at their respective offices and make sure that everyone is doing his/her assigned task.

“While there will be a continuing announcement from the City Administrator regarding movement of employees, I am directing all heads give them your cooperation, bring them where they should be. I do not wish to hear that they are not being given an assignment. I will remove you as department head if you will not perform that job,” the Mayor said.

Earlier, Rama also asked 500 job order personnel to already cease from reporting for work as their contracts will no longer be renewed.
