Training for game officials set

THE DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) will conduct a five-day “Capability Building and Training Officials Seminar” this Dec. 10 to 14 at the Cebu City Sports Center .

The seminar, aimed at improving the quality of officiating in the Palarong Pambansa,  will be hosted by DepEd Cebu City Office headed by Chief education support services division Dr. Vivian Ginete.
Region 7 officials have often complained about the poor efficiency of the officiating crew of the Palarong Pambansa.

According to some DepEd officials, they noticed that the host city always gets favored during competition, which leads to questionable results.

But they have no solid evidence of the alleged irregularities.

So Ginete is urging Cebuano teachers who have experience in officiating a sporting event to take part of the seminar.

“Kusug man gyud daw ang tikas sa Palarong Pambansa so kinahanglan naa tay atong kaugalingong officials nga maoy mo monitor sa mga duwa,” Ginete said.

Another objective of the five-day seminar is to replace the aging officials who are already planning to retire.

So far, 900 have already enlisted for the seminar. The participants will go through a crash course on familiarizing the rules and regulations of each sporting event that will be competed in the Palarong Pambansa.

“We require physically fit participants who already have sports equipment so that it’s easy for the officials from Manila to teach them,” Ginete said.

Registration is still ongoing at the DepEd Cebu City Office along Imus Road. The registration fee is P2,800.
