CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB-7) has issued special permits to 560 schools buses in Cebu Province, including the tri-cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, to ensure sufficient number of vehicles plying the streets in time for the start of face-to-face classes here.
“Our monitoring since yesterday, August 22, 2022, we have sufficient transportation for the students. This is one of the current thrust of the DOTr and LTFRB to ensure that we have a viable, safe, and reliable transportation for the students,” LTFRB-7 director Eduardo Montealto, Jr. said.
He added that they are also rationalizing public transportation to ensure that there are enough public transportation for all the commuters here in Metro Cebu.
Montealto said that as of now, a total of 1,120 modern public utility jeepneys (MPUJs) and 700 traditional public utility jeepneys (TPJUs) are plying the streets to cater to commuters in addition to the 560 school buses with special permits.
Montealto then reminded operators and drivers of public utility jeepneys to still observe the minimum health protocols inside their units.
He said that they apprehended at least five MPUJs on Monday, August 22, 2022, for violating the minimum health protocols on social distancing.
“So far, kagahapon, duna tay five MPUJs nga gihatagan og warning, pero karon, gi-implement na namo and sa violations nila kay P5,000 baya ang multa ana. Kinahangaln g’yod nga seating capacity is 100 percent,” he said.
“Dugay dugay na pod na nato siya gi conduct nga mga road inspections, dili man gud ta kinahanglan nga naa sa dalan kanunay kay ang mga MPUJs duna na silay CCTV,” he added.
