CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City police recorded minimal crime incidents in the city in this month of September.
However, they noticed a slight increase of incidents in physical injuries and theft compared to the August data, which ran from August 1 to 12 respectively.
In August, CCPO recorded 24 crime incidents as well. Majority of these were thefts. They had five reports of murder; physical injuries (3); rape (2); robbery (1), and theft (13).
For September 1 to 12, the CCPO had 3 murder incidents; physical injuries (5); robbery (2), and theft (14).
Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), attributed this to the continuous collaboration of the police and the community in their campaigns against criminalities.
“Minimal ra kaayo ang iyahang increase. That is tolerable considering sa volume of persons nga mugawas kay nagstart na sad ang klase, face-to-face, but we were able to maintain the crime statistics nga ubos, especially sa atoang eight focused crimes,” Parilla said.
(The increase was only minimal. That is tolerable considering the volume of persons, who are going out because the face-to-face classes have started, but we were able to maintain the crime statistics to be lower, especially on our focused crimes.)
“Hapsay ra ang atoang pagsugod sa klase. Walay major incidents nga involved estudyante or parents, especially sa robbery and theft. Usually pagpanglungkab sa balay,” he added.
(The start of the classes was orderly. There were no major incidents involving students or parents especially on robbery and theft. Usually, it would be burglary of houses.)
In general, Parilla said that there were no major incidents affecting students in the city since the start of limited in-person classes last August 22.
Despite this, Parilla further reminds the public that crimes do not happen without opportunities.
“Dunay tulo ka elemento ang krimen, intent sa criminal, dili na nato makuha, instrumentality, ug ikatulo ang opportunity. So with these three elements, atoang pwede iwagtang kay ang opportunity ra gyud,” he said.
(Crimes have three elements, intent of the criminal, we cannot take that, instrumentality and the third is opportunity. So with this three elements, what we can take away from these factors is only opportunity.)
