Adamson University and National University (NU) stood tall and earned wins over Far Eastern University (FEU) and the University of the East (UE), respectively, to push their campaigns forward in the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Falcons got past FEU, 25-19, 27-25, 25-13, while NU survived a tough UE side in the opening frame before coasting to a 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 victory.
The Lady Falcons, who tied the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Bulldogs at 2-2 (win-loss) in third place, got a career game from Mylene Paat.
Now playing as an open hitter, Paat tallied 17 points, including four blocks to pace Adamson, which despite losing several key players to graduation remains a Final Four material.
Jessica Galanza, who had 16 points and six digs, and Amanda Villanueva, who had three blocks to finish with 10 hits, also shone for the Lady Falcons.
In the men’s division, Jerome Sarmiento and Michael Sudaria had 13 hits apiece as Adamson tripped UE, 25-13, 25-10, 25-18, to tie UST in second place at 3-1, while FEU downed La Salle, 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-13, with Franco Camcam scoring 14 points, including two blocks, and Joel Cayaban contributing 10 hits and seven digs.
